Airport Chaplaincy

The Rev Michael Banfield has been Senior Chaplain since 1995, and is supported by a part-time Team of volunteer Chaplains. Chaplaincy is available at the Airport on weekdays during office hours, and on call at most other times.

The Chaplaincy Ministry

• The Airport Chaplaincy understands the aim as being to identify, understand, and share in the issues that affect staff and passengers at the Airport, and to reflect the concern of the churches for people, and for faith-based values in life and work.
• Both the churches and the Airport see it as important that in a commercial setting like London Luton Airport, where thousands of staff work and millions of passengers travel through, there should be an agency for listening to individuals in need, supporting and encouraging people and the employing companies in the work they do, and a ministry presence that reminds staff and passengers alike of the spiritual values of life;
• Chaplaincy ministry is offered to staff and passengers of any faith or none;
• The Chaplaincy role includes offering assistance to passengers in special need or when on pilgrimage;
• Further activities for the Chaplaincy include care of the Airport Chapel facility, and involvement in emergency planning for both Airport and airlines;
• The Chaplaincy is affiliated to the International Association of Civil Aviation Chaplains (IACAC), and the British Isles and Eire Network of Airport Chaplains;
• This Chaplaincy is sponsored equally by London Luton Airport Operations Ltd for the Airport, and Workplace Ministry in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire for the churches.

The Airport Chapel

Opened in 2000, the facility extends a welcome to people of all faiths. It is a haven of peace, and a place for quiet reflection, in the midst of the Airport's activity. It is open from 0400 hours until 2300 hours each day for personal use and everyone is welcome to make use of it. Prayer mats are available, as are faith scriptures and other literature. Please feel free to sign the Visitors' Book when you visit.

The facility is located close to the main terminal building, at the front of the previous terminal. Just follow the clear signage from the Onward Travel Centre, or from the main concourse, in the terminal.

A 25-minute Christian Worship/Prayer Service is normally held each Wednesday at 1305 hours - and all passengers, visitors, and members of staff are welcome to attend. Services are announced in the terminal building.
