Cargo

Background

London Luton Cargo is wholly owned and operated by London Luton Airport Operations Ltd. We offer first class facilities including the ONLY HMR&C approved Transit Shed Operation (TSO) with a building measuring 2,600 sq metres (28,000 sq ft).

London Luton Cargo has been in a 24-hour 7 day operation since January 1985 and also offers a DEFRA/EU approved Border Inspection Post with stabling facilities and dedicated Cargo Apron measuring 17,000 sq metres (184,400 sq ft).

Situated just 30 minutes from Central London and only three miles from the M1 junction 10, linking nicely to the A1 and M25, London Luton Airport's dedicated Cargo Centre is a favourite departure and arrivals point for express and courier services, livestock, perishables and all general cargo.

25,000 tonnes of freight was handled during the financial year that ended on 31 March 2006.

Location and quality of service make London Luton Cargo the first choice for a large number of cargo operators. Customs clearance has been simplified by utilisation of the ABS2020 computer systems for both Imports and Exports (NES) and thanks to the strengthening and widening of the Cargo Centre taxiway all sizes of aircraft can be accommodated.

London Luton Airport operates an EU and DEFRA approved airport border inspection post for livestock operations into the UK. Dedicated horse ramp and main deck loaders means that we don't merely handle animals, we care for them.

Some of the more unusual cargo carried includes 1000 sheep from New Zealand, 25 Cossack horses from the Ukraine and Alpacas from Chile. However, the main operations are related to high value race horses and showjumpers. The facility was the focal point for the movement of the equine teams for the Athens Olympics, including the Greek team!

More and more operators are considering London Luton Airport as an operating base due to its excellent location, facilities, smooth and fast delivery / collection times (no significant truck waiting times), friendly and experienced staff with a combined 198 years worth of service, no runway slot restrictions and its flexible tariffs.

Space for further expansion is available and DHL, MNG Airlines, PIA, and Norsk European all utilise London Luton Cargo for their dedicated freighter operations on a scheduled basis.

Destinations are further enhanced by utilisation of passenger carrying aircraft with ThompsonFly, Monarch Scheduled, and many others carry commercial freight to numerous European destinations.

The good news is that there is room for more.
