Airport Chaplaincy

The Revd. Michael Banfield has been Senior Chaplain since 1995, and is supported by a part-time Team of volunteer Chaplains. Chaplaincy is available at the Airport on weekdays during office hours, and on call at most other times.

The Airport Chapel

Opened in 2000, the facility extends a welcome to people of all faiths. It is a haven of peace, and a place for quiet reflection, in the midst of the Airport's activity. It is open from 0400 hours until 2300 hours each day for personal use and everyone is welcome to make use of it. Prayer mats are available, as are faith scriptures and other literature. Please feel free to sign the Visitors' Book when you visit.

The facility is located close to the main terminal building, at the front of the previous terminal. Just follow the clear signage from the Onward Travel Centre, or from the main concourse, in the terminal.

A 25-minute Christian Worship/Prayer Service is normally held each Wednesday at 1305 hours - and all passengers, visitors, and members of staff are welcome to attend. Services are announced in the terminal building.

The Multi Faith Prayer Room

Opened in January 2010, the Prayer Room is located after the Security search area, on the upper level of the Departure Lounge, near the Executive Lounges - and passengers can access it via the same entrance. Follow the signs.

It is available at all times to passengers and staff of any faith. Prayer mats are available, together with faith literature.

There is also an adjacent room with Religious Washing Facilities.

Links with the Local Community

The Airport Chaplaincy, in serving the Airport community, is conscious that the Airport itself is closely linked with the local community, with many residents working at the Airport or for its suppliers, and others travelling through as passengers. Chaplaincy Team members are drawn from churches and faith groups serving the local community, and so the Chaplaincy is interested in and concerned for both the Airport and its neighbours. The Chaplaincy is pleased to have the opportunity to support both Airport and wider community through involvement in London Luton Airport's Community Engagement Strategy, and takes a special interest in the work of those implementing it.
