Frequently Asked Questions
Topic: Travelling to the Airport
Q: Are the current road works on the M1 affecting the traffic to/from the Airport?
A:
The project to widen the M1, between junctions 6A and 10, is being promoted by the Highways Agency and has been ongoing since March 2006. The expected completion date is Autumn 2008. The average speed limit on this section of the M1 is 50mph, but depending on the day you travel you may find delays during peak periods and therefore it is advisable to leave extra travel time for your journey to the Airport. For further information please contact the Highways Agency. www.highways.gov.uk
The second project, government-funded and promoted by Luton Borough Council, is known as the East Luton Corridor (ELC). This involves major improvements to the road between London Luton Airport and J10 of the M1, due for completion in Spring 2008. These roadworks are ongoing and at times may affect the traffic to/from the Luton Airport Parkway Station or to/from the M1; therefore it is advisable to leave extra travel time for your journey to the Airport. For further information please contact Luton Borough Council www.luton.gov.uk
