London Luton Airport wins University of Bedfordshire’s Partner of the Year Award
Published: 23 June 2014
London Luton Airport is proud to be announced as ‘Partner of the Year’ at the University of Bedfordshire’s Student Experience Awards.
The award celebrates the unique Student Internship Scheme the Airport runs in partnership with the University of Bedfordshire and aims to give international students the opportunity to undertake firsthand experience of working at an international airport, whilst also studying for their degree. The scheme has been running for over 12 months and has seen more than 200 interns from varying backgrounds and nationalities take part.
In addition to on-campus workshops, the Airport challenges the students by removing them from their comfort zone and exposing them to a customer orientated environment, where they respond to passenger requests on a daily basis. Each student completes 75 hours at the Airport assisting passengers in the pre-security preparation area advising them what is permitted through security search.
The judges, student’s union and university staff, were impressed with the support given to the students, some of whom have gone on to gain employment in the UK, Pakistan, India, Africa, Singapore, Turkey and Greece.
Kim Kennedy, General Manager Passenger Services at London Luton Airport, said: “We are delighted to have received this award. It has been a pleasure working alongside the University, giving students an opportunity to develop their customer service skills. Whilst we are always sad to see the students leave at the end of their time with us, it is rewarding to see them depart with such confidence.”
The Airport is incredibly proud of the partnership with the University and looks forward to continuing the successful programme.
