NATS Terminal Control North consultation - extended
Published: 07 May 2008
London Luton Airport welcomes the announcement made by NATS, the main air traffic control service provider in the UK, of an extensive public consultation on proposed changes to airspace in the London area.
The consultation process is a NATS initiative that outlines airspace development proposals covering a large part of South East England. London Luton, Stansted, London City and Heathrow airports are all located within this region along with a significant number of smaller airfields.
Following a four year planning and design process the consultation document sets out proposals and provides very comprehensive information to consultation stakeholders giving everyone the opportunity to contribute.
London Luton Airport is a consultee in the process and will now take time to fully consider the very detailed proposals over the 13 week consultation period.
London Luton Airport encourages anyone requiring further information to visit the NATS website at www.nats.co.uk/TCNconsultation
The TCN consultation that opened on 21 February, and had been due to end on 22 May, will now close on 19 June, giving primary stakeholders and members of the public an extra month to consider their views and submit them.
The proposed changes are the first fundamental overhaul in several decades for this section of airspace and they are designed to reduce delay whilst maintaining safety and improving environmental performance. The region is one of the most complex areas of airspace in the world, with routes in and out of major airports including Heathrow, Stansted, Luton and London City as well as smaller airports such as Southend and RAF Northolt.
Jonathan Astill, Head of Airspace Management, said: "We have listened to those people who have said there was not enough time for them to consider the details of these proposals and decided to extend the consultation period. It is important that everyone who has a view on the proposals has a chance to make those views known and this four-week extension will enable them to do so. We are consulting very widely on these proposals and have already visited a number of councils, and briefed MPs, to discuss local implications and to answer their questions on the proposals. We have more meetings scheduled. We are receiving a wide range of feedback which will be taken into account in finalising the proposal we put forward for consideration by the Civil Aviation Authority."
