Published: 16 December 2006

London Luton Airport is delighted that the Government has identified us as one of the airports that will play a role in the development of airport capacity in the South East of England.

The announcement today is a huge boost for London Luton Airport as it recognises both our current and our future prominence as a major component in the countrys national transport infrastructure. We believe the successful future development of London Luton Airport is a key part of the UKs future economic prosperity, and today the Government has endorsed our views.

Managing Director of London Luton Airport, Paul Kehoe, responding to todays Government White Paper said:

The Government has recognised that it has to look ahead to consider some difficult solutions in order to meet the challenges for aviation in future years presented by the future growth in air travel. We need to move ahead in partnership with Government to deliver an industry that can meet the needs of our economy. We are pleased that the Government has recognised the key role that London Luton Airport has to play.

Chief Executive of TBI plc, Keith Brooks, added:

This is a tremendous vote of confidence in the future of London Luton Airport, the management and the staff. It will be our job to build on this opportunity to deliver growth in airlines and passengers over the coming years.

Todays decision underlines the importance of London Luton Airport as a growing airport and an effective economic driver and job creator for both the Greater Luton area and the entire South of England.
