Employees make Airport Top Fundraiser
Published: 02 February 2010
In 2009 London Luton Airport employees pledged their support to Keech Hospice Care by choosing it as their Airport Charity of the Year. The Airport provided an initial donation of £10,000 and employees undertook a year of fundraising to increase this donation.
We are delighted to report that by the end of 2009, a further
£26,000 was raised by those working at the airport which has been
used to support the new eight-bed Adult In-Patient Unit at
Keech. The total contribution this year, together with fund
raising efforts in previous years, means that London Luton Airport
has donated a staggering £167,000 for the hospice since it opened
as The Pasque Charity in 1991.
In 2009 Airport employees threw themselves into support of Keech
Hospice Care, getting involved in marathons, triathlons, a midnight
walk, quiz nights, charity collections and even cake baking. Keech
Hospice Care has also benefited from the London Luton Airport
employee volunteering programme with employees taking part in a
number of challenges at the hospice including cleaning the hospice
hydro pool, a deep clean of the new Adult In-Patient Unit prior to
its opening and renovation of the courtyard garden.
David White, Chief Executive, Keech Hospice Care said 'We are very
grateful for the support we've received from London Luton Airport
and have been really impressed by all the fundraising efforts put
in by the Airport team. Not only has this helped to raise some of
the essential funds we need, it has also helped to increase
awareness of our work across our community. Both of these things
have been a great boost for the charity. London Luton Airport has
played an important part in helping us achieve this vision and I
very much hope everyone there shares our sense of pride in this
achievement.'
London Luton Airport employees have again selected Keech Hospice
Care as the Airport Charity of the Year for 2010. A further £10,000
is pledged to the charity, with employees already planning a whole
range of fundraising challenges with a view to surpassing the 2009
total.
Siān Pearce, Community Relations Executive at London Luton Airport said "This represents an incredible team effort. We're delighted we've been able to make a contribution to the work of Keech Hospice Care. This is a charity which is close to many Airport employees' hearts and we're grateful to everybody who has rallied round in support. We're looking forward to building on 2009's s s s s efforts with more fundraising activities with employees and passengers alike to continue to make a real difference."
