£50,000 to go to Community Trust Fund in 2010

Published: 03 February 2010

London Luton Airport today announced £50,000 will go to the Airport’s Community Trust Fund in 2010. The fund, which was established a year ago, was set up to provide support for local community initiatives that positively contribute towards the aims and objectives of the Airport’s Community Engagement Strategy.

The £50,000 available through the fund in 2010 is open to applications from groups in Luton, Stevenage, Central Bedfordshire, North Hertfordshire, Aylesbury Vale and St Albans district - which includes Harpenden. The fund is independently administered by Bedfordshire and Luton Community Foundation and grants are awarded by its Grants Panel.

In 2009, the Grants Panel made 30 awards supporting local projects across the Region, helping to transform lives locally and deliver social, environmental and economic progress in the community.

The Biggleswade Air Cadets was one of the groups that received funding in 2009.  Gina Gilbert, Flying Officer Biggleswade Air Cadets said 'this grant will give all of our cadets the opportunity to gain a Duke of Edinburgh award regardless of parental income and the ability to buy kit; it is a great initiative.'

Simon Earles, General Manager Planning and CSR at London Luton Airport said 'We would like to thank the Bedfordshire and Luton Community Foundation for ensuring the fund made such a positive impact 2009. We hope it will continue to provide important help to local community groups in 2010, and to this end, we have committed a further £50,000 to fund a range of projects.'
