Fundraising Firefighters Incredible “Gym For Heroes” Challenge
Published: 26 July 2011
Three serving members of the London Luton Airport Fire & Rescue Service completed a gruelling 12 hour endurance charity challenge and have raised in excess of £2,200 for “Help for Heroes” as part of the “Gym for Heroes” nationwide fundraising event.
Paul Renforth, Ryan Reynolds and Matt Bryan worked out continuously for 12 hours last Friday 22nd July, on three pieces of gym fitness equipment and received donations from passing passengers and colleagues. The challenge began at 5am and ended shortly after 5.30pm – allowing for equipment changeovers.
The three firefighters covered a distance between them of 700kms – the distance from Luton to Amsterdam and back again. They also lost a stone in weight between them but most importantly, they collected £2,230 during the event. This total will now be added to online donations they have received and the total is expected to top £3,500.
