MAIN PURPOSE OF POST:

The Network Technician role is part of the IT Infrastructure team, which focuses on delivering projects related to the maintenance and development of the airport’s server and network infrastructure, in addition to supporting the delivery of various business-wide projects.

This role is suitable for those looking to move into their first dedicated IT networking role.

MAIN DUTIES WILL INVOLVE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Support the day-to-day running of the airport wired and wireless networks, including conducting regular health checks, identifying issues, risks, and opportunities, and providing recommendations for continuous improvement.

  • Configure and install network switches and patch ethernet/Fiber Lines across the airport.

  • Implement best practices for network management and perform regular maintenance activities to ensure network stability and performance.

  • Liaise with third-party vendors and internal staff to provide support on network-related projects.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues when escalated from IT Support teams.

  • Utilise network monitoring tools to proactively identify and address network problems and vulnerabilities.

  • Conduct regular maintenance to other networking equipment such as routers, firewalls, and VPNs to help maintain performance and security of the network.

  • Produce maintenance plans and support documentation for the network and provide training for the handover to IT support teams.

  • Member of the infrastructure on-call rota.

  • Responsibility for the health, safety and wellbeing of yourself and colleagues in the workplace; supporting our journey to create an open and honest wellbeing culture at LLA.

KEY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROLE:
Essential
  • Experience of working as an IT Support Administrator or IT Support Engineer to a 2nd line or 3rd line support level in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of network support and administration, including DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP protocols.
  • Understanding of network and system monitoring and alerting solutions.
  • Hands-on experience configuring and physically installing network switches into stack and non-stack configurations.
  • Knowledge of cyber security principles to ensure the safety and integrity of the network.
  • Excellent collaboration skills to effectively work with colleagues, users, and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Willing to invest time, effort, and energy to learn & develop new skills and capabilities.
  • Entry-level networking qualification, such as CompTIA Network+ or equivalent.
Desirable
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with HPE Aruba networking products.
  • Experience working with firewalls and routers (basic configuration changes, failover, testing).
  • Familiarity with Network Automation Tools.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server Technologies, as well as VMWare/Hyper-V virtualization, is beneficial.

You will be required to pass a range of referencing and vetting checks, including a Criminal Record Check and for certain roles a Counter Terrorism Check. You must also have lived in the UK for at least 3 years with a 5-year work history, unless in education.
