As the UK’s fifth busiest airport and the area’s biggest employer, we have a responsibility to reduce the risk of accidents and incidents, of ill health to all staff, third parties, business partners and members of the public.
To help us, we’ve implemented a robust safety management system, and the essence is outlined in our Health & Safety Policy outlined below.
Health, Safety and Wellbeing Policy 2025

How we will deliver this:
- Ongoing monitoring, improvement, and assessment of our Health & Safety performance to effectively manage risks in our work activities.
- Adopt a proactive safety management approach, setting measurable objectives for Health, Safety, and Psychological Risk improvement.
- Demonstrate effective leadership and communication in Health, Safety & Wellbeing through our risk governance structure.
- Ensure our Senior leadership teams regularly engage directly with employees through Senior Leadership Engagement Tours.
- Conduct Wellbeing Risk Assessments across all departments to identify psychosocial hazards and creating action plans to mitigate them.
- Driving an open and honest wellbeing culture without stigma where we proactively support workforce wellbeing through interventions.
- Provide training for our managers to recognise and address psychosocial risks effectively.
- Assign clear roles and responsibilities, encouraging active employee engagement.
- Embed safety in our design approach through proactive risk management measures.
- Promote open reporting of unplanned events for transparency, encouraging concerns to be voiced and respected.
- Conduct consistent learning reviews on all events through thorough investigation methods for continuous improvement and risk reduction.
- Consulting and collaborating with employees, trade unions, and stakeholders for open communication prioritising health, safety and wellbeing.
- Provide praise, recognition, and celebrating success for reinforcing positive behaviours.
- Provide and maintain safe plant and equipment; ensure safe handling and use of substances.
- Develop and deliver effective business continuity and emergency planning arrangements.
- Equip our workforce with necessary information, training, supervision, resources, and tools for competency and safety.
- Maintain safe and healthy working conditions and welfare provisions.
- Embed a 'just culture' throughout our business processes.
- Comply with and strive to exceed relevant compliance obligations and requirements.
- Assess our safety culture maturity to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Review this policy and the Health & Safety Management System annually.
