Job purpose summary:
London Luton Airport is looking for a Net Zero Executive to support the delivery of our Net Zero Roadmap and work towards our goal of achieving Net Zero by 2040. The Net Zero Executive will:
Supporting the implementation of projects related to energy and emissions reduction (i.e. low and zero carbon fleet, energy efficiency, electrification, heating decarbonisation).
Engage with and support colleagues and stakeholders to drive sustainability projects and commitments through close collaborations and partnerships using excellent communication and organisation skills
Providing strategic insight into sustainability commitments as well as on existing and new government regulations on decarbonisation and energy management
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
Working with the Net Zero Senior Manager and Sustainable Aviation Manager to deliver projects associated with the delivery of our Net Zero roadmap, and aligned with our 2040 goal
Support the zero-carbon fleet transition by engaging with stakeholders across the business, coordinating delivery plans, and ensuring progress towards agreed targets
Work alongside operational colleagues to upgrade assets and optimise processes to reduce emissions and improve efficiency across the site
Remain on top of evolving government and industry requirements, ensuring LLA continues to display best practice in areas associated with energy and emission management
Support multiple projects simultaneously, working with the Project Management Office to support the delivery of large-scale projects to improve our Scope 1 & 2 carbon performance
Contribute to the sustainability governance function to accurately track and report energy and associated carbon emissions from all activities relating to scope 1 & 2 emissions
Influence and empower colleagues, stakeholders and third parties to embed sustainability within their business area, driving cultural and behavioural change
Support the compliance manager with ongoing compliance commitments, including alignment with the ISO 50001 standard and risk management of all energy-based risks.
Manage procurement activities from tender stage through to project completion, including running tenders, creating and utilising frameworks and managing contractors post-award
Oversee external consultant relationships to ensure delivery of consultant-led work packages and maintain alignment with project objectives
Assist with the development and maintenance of a robust capex budget system, controlling budgets and monitoring finances, providing accurate updates on progress, resources, finance, and costs
Effectively translate technical and complex sustainability information into clear, relatable messages through presentations, reports, and other mediums for non-technical stakeholders
Collaborate with the sustainability team and wider business to monitor, track, and manage resource use across key areas such as water, waste, and construction activities, in line with business KPIs.
Proactively and positively promote the LLA Way initiatives and projects with all employees and the wider airport community.
Knowledge, skills & experience required:
Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in environmental or sustainability studies
Minimum of 3 years of experience working in sustainability and/or environmental management
Strong interest and understanding of decarbonisation, Net Zero, and wider environmental agenda
Strategic thinking with the ability to convey complex subject matter and influence stakeholders
Thorough understanding and up-to-date knowledge of environmental legislation and government policy
Proficient in MS programs, including Excel and PowerPoint
Strong organisational and project management skills, ability to work under pressure and on multiple projects at once
Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt to different stakeholders
Excellent verbal, numeracy and literacy skills
- Driven, self-motivated, willing to show initiative and make a change
