Title: Senior IT Project Manager

Reports to: IT Portfolio Manager

Work patterns: Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. (excluding Bank Holidays)

Department overview:

The IT Department at London Luton Airport manages information systems and technology across the airport, with teams responsible for IT Operations & Service Delivery, IT Infrastructure, Cyber & Information Security, Data Science, and Project & Portfolio Management.

Job purpose summary:

Reporting to the IT Portfolio Manager, the Senior IT Project Manager has responsibility for delivering multiple technology-enabled initiatives across the airport. It’s a varied role that requires a track-record of delivery, strong relationship skills, and the ability to turn business requirements into tangible outcomes.

The Senior IT Project Manager works closely with our internal and external customers on a blend of large and small initiatives that have a technology component. Work will range from IT-for-IT projects, such as infrastructure and systems upgrades or lifecycle refreshes, to business systems projects that introduce new software solutions across the airport, to the delivery of IT & Cybersecurity requirements on capital/construction programmes.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Delivering results for your customers: Delivering consistent, high-quality results for project sponsors and customers.
  • Project Management fundamentals: Following our IT Project Management Framework, you’ll ensure initiatives are scoped, planned, resourced, governed and delivered in a controlled way, with a focus on outcomes.
  • Shaping business requirements and business cases: Working with sponsors and their teams to develop their requirements and justification for change.
  • Run effective meetings: Whether it’s a steering group, project board or project team meeting, your meetings will be timely, structured and effective.
  • Risk, issue and dependency management: You’ll identify and manage risks and dependencies proactively.
  • Reporting: Your sponsor and project team will be kept up to date on project progress, with regular management reporting (and escalation if required) to the IT Portfolio Board.
  • Coaching your project team: As a champion of our IT Project Management Framework, you’ll be a role model for project delivery excellence, seeking opportunities to upskill your project team and other members of the IT department along the way.
  • Proactively and positively promote the LLA Way initiatives and projects with all employees and the wider airport community.

Knowledge, skills and experience required:

Essential

  • A minimum of 3 years working as a Project Manager on a variety of technology-enabled projects.
  • Experience working in fast-paced operational roles, with the ability to multitask on a variety of initiatives, prioritising across tasks and projects where required.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft cloud-based project, planning, collaboration, and reporting tools.
  • Experience building project business cases and managing project finances.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • A project or programme management qualification or a demonstrable track record in self-development throughout your career.
  • Willing to work from our offices at London Luton Airport for at least 3 days a week, typically as you’ll need to be visible to your stakeholders, customers and delivery teams.

Desirable

  • A general understanding of some of the following: IT infrastructure and network projects, systems architecture, databases, APIs and cloud platforms.
  • Relevant work experience in agile or lean delivery approaches, with a willingness to help shape our own delivery processes where relevant.
  • Experience managing procurement processes, including pre-market engagement, requests for bids, and tender evaluations.
  • Exposure to Cyber Security or Information Security projects or frameworks – our portfolio has a growing number of initiatives in this space.
  • An understanding of business change principles.
