We’re excited to announce the launch of a brand-new opportunity as part of our London Luton Airport Apprenticeship Programme! In line with our partnership commitments with Luton Borough Council, we’re providing local opportunities for local residents from LU1 to LU4 postcodes to join our Sustainability team— while earning a Level 4 Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability qualification with LDN Apprenticeships.

About the Apprenticeship

Delivered through a nationally recognised programme, the Level 4 Sustainability Professional course will give you the skills and knowledge to lead Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives in a large, dynamic organisation like ours. You'll learn how to drive positive ESG change while gaining valuable hands-on experience right here at the airport.

Your Role at London Luton Airport will include:

  • Supporting campaigns and initiatives that support our ESG strategy
  • Building relationships with colleagues to integrate sustainability best practices and ethical policies into daily airport operations
  • Engaging with community organisations and charity partners (TOKKO and Bedfordshire NHS) to help drive our social and environmental impact
  • Contributing to communications that promote our sustainability efforts and share best practices across the airport
  • Collecting and inputting sustainability data to support mandatory governance reporting
  • Helping to organise events that engage both internal employees and external stakeholders around ESG themes
  • Monitoring our projects and campaigns to ensure they meet sustainability and regulatory standards in line with our Responsible Business Strategy and wider business commitments
  • Identifying social and environmental risks and helping to recommend actions to protect our corporate reputation
  • Representing the airport at ESG events and conferences to keep us informed about developments in the field
  • Tracking spend on sustainability activities and highlighting any budget risks to leaders
  • Supporting the training of colleagues on the practical application of sustainability in their roles
  • Assisting with submissions to third-party accreditation schemes and sustainability benchmarks aligned with ESG standards
  • Contributing sustainability news and updates to our internal newsletters and social media channels
  • Supporting fundraising activities that engage LLA employees and charity partners

Training & Qualification

You’ll be enrolled in the Level 4 Sustainability Professional, where you'll gain specialist knowledge in sustainability, ethical business practices, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory compliance.

Duration: Typically 20 months (15 months apprenticeship, 5-month gateway period to prepare for EPA)

  • Delivered by an accredited provider, blending on-the-job experience with classroom learning
  • 1-1 meetings with assigned skills coach
  • Opportunity to network and learn with other apprentices in monthly live sessions
  • In-person development days every 6 months
  • Leads to a nationally recognised qualification and opens doors to sustainability and ESG roles in major organisations, such as London Luton Airport
  • Access to IEMA membership

Typical work pattern

  • 37 hours per week (Including one study day)
  • Typical working hours are between 09:00 – 17:30

Who we're looking for

  • A passion for sustainability, environment, social and/or governance, and making a positive impact
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • An individual who enjoys working with others, sharing ideas and helping colleagues achieve a common goal
  • Planning and organisational skills, with great attention to detail and an ability to manage multiple projects
  • Curious and eager to learn and willing to represent LLA at industry events and conferences
  • Confident using Microsoft Office and interested in learning sustainability reporting tools
  • Committed to our goal to shape a sustainable future and reduce the environmental impact of our operations on our people, our community and the economy.

Qualifications required/desirable

Minimum requirements:

  • English and Maths at GCSE Grade 4 (C) or above, or Functional Skills Level 2

Desired requirements:

  • Previous experience or volunteering in sustainability, charity, community projects, or environmental work is a plus
  • Confidence using digital tools and social media platforms

Eligibility

  • Living in England for the past 3 years and have the right to work in the UK
  • 5-year checkable work/education history  
  • Not currently enrolled on any other courses
  • Aged 18 or over
  • Living in Luton (LU1-LU4)

All apprenticeships are subject to passing enhanced background checks in aviation.
