London Luton Airport Operations Limited (LLAOL) recognises and accepts its responsibility to protect the environment, prevent pollution and minimise the environmental impacts of our business activities whilst continuing to review our performance in managing these impacts.

This policy aligns our shareholder’s core environmental policies and expectations, including the “Policy on Integrated Quality, Environmental, Energy Efficiency and Occupational Health and Safety Management at Aena”, which was adopted by the LLAOL Board in October 2023.

Our Environmental operating principles are reflected in the following:

Environmental Governance

Assess the environmental impacts of all operations and work to mitigate significant environmental impacts in line with LLAOL’s Environment Management System.
• Ensure that environmental responsibilities and considerations are included in all aspects of our business planning and operation, consistent with sound business management practices.
• Comply with and seek to exceed relevant compliance obligations, striving to achieve continual environmental improvement and adoption of best practice.
• Establish and regularly review environmental aspects, compliance obligations and risks and opportunities.
• Communicate this policy to all persons working for and on behalf of LLAOL, ensuring all employees have a full understanding of their assigned environmental responsibilities and that they are trained and competent to fulfil their environmental obligations.
• Actively contribute where possible in industry and government-led activities aimed at mitigating the environmental impact of airports and wider aviation industry.
• Establish and share lessons learned from environmental events to seek opportunities for improvement and risk reduction across the business.
• Work with our partners and airlines to ensure operational compliance with their regulatory environmental obligations and encourage environmental improvements and adoption of best practice.

Resources and Circular Economy

• Embed the principles of a circular economy by ensuring the prudent use of natural resources, such as water and materials, minimising waste generation and the use of single-use plastics, and maximising re-use and recycling rates, where practicable, in collaboration with our partners.
• Respect and preserve the environment by promoting the protection and enhancement of biodiversity.
• Maximise diversion from landfill rates for construction activities, and ensure all non-hazardous and unavoidable hazardous waste is disposed of according to the correct waste regulations.

Pollution

Monitor air pollution within and around the airport to aid meeting UK air quality objectives, identify the contribution of airport-related sources, investigate any exceedances and work to reduce our emissions.
• Minimise impact on our neighbours by limiting the impact of noise and light, working with airlines to implement LLAOL’s Noise Action Plan and exploring operational changes.
• Minimise impact to land and watercourses by maintaining water outflows in line with consents.

Climate Adaptation

Ensure that climate change adaptation is considered in all aspects of business planning and operations with roles and responsibilities assigned across LLAOL to identify and monitor physical and transitional risks and opportunities, with mitigating controls implemented where possible.
