Inverness

A charming city located on the picturesque banks of the River Ness

About Inverness

Inverness is one of the largest cities in the Scottish Highlands and Islands region, and it’s considered a Scottish cultural capital. Cross the suspension bridges across the River Ness — watch out for the Grieg Street Bridge’s bouncy middle!

Old stone buildings remain preserved across the city, such as the late 16th-century building, Abertarff House. The mightily impressive Inverness Castle sits on a cliff overlooking the River Ness. Why not visit both and uncover Scotland’s past?

The Inverness Old Town is also home to some of the best shopping in the Highlands. Make sure you visit the Indoor Victorian Market filled with independent retailers and stock up on traditional gifts.

Once you’ve explored the city, drive 30 minutes north to the world-famous Loch Ness. See if you can spot Nessie lurking in the water.

Fly from London Luton Airport to Inverness in 1 hour 30 minutes.
