Aberdeen

A historic port city known for its granite architecture, lively cultural scene, and stunning coastline.

About Aberdeen

Aberdeen is located in the northeast of Scotland and it’s the third-largest city in Scotland behind Glasgow and Edinburgh. Settlers first lived in the coastal Scottish highland town almost 8000 years ago — hunter-gatherers made their home around the mouths of the River Dee and the River Don. Fast forward to modern-day Aberdeen, and it’s nicknamed the “Granite City” due to lots of city buildings made from local granite from Rubislaw Quarry. Buildings may be grey, but they still sparkle in the Aberdeen sunshine!

Walk around Aberdeen and you’ll find plenty of shops, bars, local restaurants and quirky cafés. Be warned, you may want to carry an umbrella and jacket — Aberdeen receives rain on average 22 days every month.

Over a quarter of Aberdeen is open space, making it a pleasant city to wander around. Stroll through Hazlehead Park or look at the botanical plants in Duthie Park Winter Gardens. There’s even an Aberdeen coastline; enjoy the 30-minute drive north to Balmedie Beach.

Fly from London Luton Airport to Aberdeen in 1 hour 25 minutes.
