Be Security Smart and check out our top tips on sailing through Security

At LLA, we want to make your airport journey as quick and hassle-free as possible. We know that queuing and and being subjected to checks is the last thing you want to be doing, especially if you’re off on holiday. That’s why we’ve invested in a new Security area with the very latest technology.

But you can help too, by being prepared. Check out our top tips, and be Security Smart.

What you can do before you get to the airport

1. Think before you pack

Everyone knows that there are strict rules about what you can put in your hold and hand luggage. But it’s worth double checking what’s not allowed and taking extra care when you pack, to avoid the delays that happen if you get it wrong.

In the main, it’s all just common sense, but for more details, see the lists of dos and don’ts for Hand Baggage and Hold Baggage.

2. Know your liquid limits

You can take your essential liquids (including creams, pastes, lotions and gels) onto the flight, if the capacity of the containers is no more than 100ml. Put them all in a resealable, clear plastic bag (approximately 20cm x 20cm) and put the bag in the tray at Security.

You're allowed one plastic bag per passenger and bags are available free of charge at the Liquid Preparation Desk prior to Security.

That’s it, in a nutshell, but for more details, read our full rules on liquids.

Remember that you can always buy drinks for the flight once you’re through Security.

3. Check-in online

Where your airline allows, check-in online and you'll save yourself some queuing time when you're at the airport. If you don't have any hold luggage, you'll be able to make your way to the departures lounge up to 3 hours before departure to browse the shops or grab a bite to eat.

4. On your marks

Get through to securty quickly thanks to our electronic boarding pass gates. Simply present the barcode on your boarding pass face down on the scanner, whether printed or on your smart phone and the gate will automatically open for you.

A manual gate is always available if you require assistance.

5. Get into pole positionSecurity lane picture

We have 14 Security lanes, with six positions per lane. So when it’s your turn to join a queue, look out for the shortest and head straight there. It’s not a race, but you can still be a winner.

6. Ready, steady...

It’s your task to put your belongings into trays and push them forwards when you’re ready. This includes coats and jackets. You'll need to remove all large electrical items from your bag and place them separately in a tray. Do the same for your compliant liquids bag. Be prepared to remove your shoes if asked to do so. Should you have any items that do not fit securely in a tray, overhang or sit too high above the top of the tray, please speak to a Security Officer who we be able to assist you. You’re in control, so keep things moving.

7. Keep it together

Put little items (watches, jewellery, money, wallets, phones, belts, passport, etc.) in your Hand Baggage or coat pockets. That way, you’ll only have to grab a couple of things once you’re through. Genius.

8. Help us and help yourself

If a member of LLA staff asks you do something, it’ll be for a very good reason. If you’re selected for a scan, for example, it’s not personal, it’s just part of our essential safety measures. So be prepared to do your bit.

9. Hold onto your hats

With all the distractions, it can be easy to forget something you’ve put into a tray. Take a moment to check that everything you put in matches what you take back. If you find you’ve forgotten something while you’re still at the Airport, you can always return to Security.
