Hand Baggage: any luggage that you carry on board with you.

What items are allowed in my hand baggage: this varies from airline to airline. Always check your airline’s restrictions before you travel. You can find a list of our airlines and their contact details here.

Musical Instruments: Travelling with a large musical instrument? We’d recommend contacting your airline before you book in case of special arrangements, such as buying an extra seat and selecting a specific seat at the time of purchase. When going through security, musical instruments will be screened separately.

Mobility Aids: Either you or someone in your party may be travelling with a mobility aid. These include but are not limited to - wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, canes, crutches, and prosthetic and orthotic devices. Airlines may have specific restrictions, so we’d recommend checking with your airline before you travel to find out what you can take as hand luggage.

Cameras: Camera equipment is accepted in hand and hold luggage. However, there may be restrictions on specialist equipment, such as professional video cameras. Contact your airline before flying to find out permitted items. Carrying camera film? Let one of our Security Officers know so it can be searched manually.

Gas-powered hair curlers: Accepted as hand luggage or hold luggage. Always keep the fitted safety cover on. You cannot take separate gas cartridges on board.

Liquids: Want to know what liquids you can take with you in the skies? Read our liquid limits guide for more information.

Top Tips for Hand Baggage:

  1. Make sure all electronic devices are charged. If your device does not switch on when requested, you may not be allowed to take it onto the aircraft. If it’s low on battery, there are phone chargers and plug points across the airport for that last bit of juice before you fly.
  2. Check the batteries. All airlines have their own policies on what batteries are allowed onboard. Contact your airline if you’re not sure what you can carry.
  3. Don’t overpack. Struggling to make everything fit in your suitcase? Don’t stress. Shop from hundreds of brands in Aelia Duty Free or take the stress away with our Click and Collect service.
  4. Not sure if you can take something on board? You’re in the right place. We’ve provided a list of items below. Still not sure? Reach out to our team who will be able to assist.
