Security tips for your Christmas bits
Our top tips for making sure your hand luggage is security-ready during the festive period.

Can snowglobes go on aeroplanes?
Yes they can! But you must pack them in your hold luggage. There’s no easy way for our security officers to measure the amount of liquid in a snowglobe and so they cannot go in your hand baggage as all liquids must be under 100ml.
Liquid rules remain in place until new security scanners are in operation next year.

Will I be allowed to take crackers on my flight?
This is a tricky one as it depends on your airline. Christmas crackers are NOT permitted on EL AL, Ryanair or Wizz Air.
If you’re travelling with an airline not listed above, crackers are OK but must adhere to the following criteria:
– Crackers must be sealed in the manufacturer's original packaging as you go through Security.
If in doubt, contact your airline directly.

Are Christmas puddings OK in hand luggage?
Christmas puddings, chocolate advent calendars, candy canes, and chocolate coins are permitted in your hand luggage. Just remember to keep to your airline’s hand baggage sizing rules!
Can you take wrapped presents on a plane?
There’s a chance that presents in your hand luggage may require further inspections when going through security, so it’s best to wrap them after you fly, or pack them in your hold luggage.

Are jams allowed in my hand luggage?
Mincemeat, chutneys, brandy butter and other food items of similar consistency are not allowed in hand luggage as they are classed as a liquid. Remember that liquid items in hand luggage must be under 100ml/100g, and all must fit into a transparent, sealable bag.
Liquid rules remain in place until new security scanners are in operation next year.

Should I take my jewellery off in airport security?
There’s no need to remove jewellery or watches when going through airport security search but you should empty your pockets and remove your belt. We recommend you do this before you get to the search area and put everything safely into your bag so nothing’s forgotten in your security tray at the end!
