Why not cycle to London Luton Airport?

LLA is conveniently located near several towns and villages where many passengers and staff reside, making walking and cycling popular commuting options for many. Nearly half of our airport staff live within a 10-mile radius.

Cycling routes nearby include the National Cycle Network Route 6, offering traffic-free paths through Luton, Harpenden, Houghton Regis, Dunstable, and Leighton Buzzard, including scenic routes through the Lea Valley.

Planning to cycle to and from London Luton Airport?

Secure, FREE cycle storage is available for both staff and passengers and is located just outside of the entrance Luton DART station (Kimpton Road Entrance).

Blue badge holders, older persons and residents of Luton borough council residents can benefit from a discounted concession rate for using the DART (connecting passengers between Luton Airport Parkway and London Luton Airport).

Airport pass holders are eligible for free travel on the DART along with their bike.

Top tips for storing your bicycle

Cycle parking is provided near the airport for your convenience. However, please note that all cycles are left at your own risk. London Luton Airport is not responsible for any loss or damage to cycles or equipment stored at the DART station.

To help ensure the safety of your bike, we recommend taking the following precautions:

  • Use high-quality locks: Utilise a D-shackle lock or a multi-braided cable lock with a "Sold Secure" or similar rating.
  • Secure your bike properly: Lock both wheels and the frame to the bike stand. Consider using more than one lock for added security.
  • Remove valuables: Take any removable parts with you, such as lights, saddles, or pumps.

By following these tips, you can help minimize the risk of theft or damage to your bicycle.

Cycle to work scheme

To encourage cycling, London Luton Airport offers a Cycle to Work Scheme to LLA employees, which allows them to lease bikes and equipment through a salary sacrifice scheme. Whilst this isn’t available to everyone with an airport pass, we encourage other businesses to offer similar schemes to their employees. 

Airport pass holders are eligible for free travel on the DART along with their bike.

 

Can’t cycle all the way to the airport?

Don’t panic. There are plenty of other ways to reach the airport. Why not take the train? Reach St Pancras International in as little as 32 minutes, with both East Midlands Railway and Thameslink services offering bicycle spaces on their trains and at their stations.
