And once you’ve finished shopping, explore the town's historical side: see the world-famous ruins of Ephesus, and the ancient Cotton Castles of Didyma, Priene, and Aprhodisius. Kusadasi is also home to Merymana-Evi, the house where the Virgin Mary is said to have spent her last days.

Trips to Turgutreis beach resort, on the western tip of the Bodrum peninsula in southwest Turkey, offer spectacular views of the Aegean Sea. Visit Artist Street every Saturday for a lively market selling local clothing and delicacies. With plenty of excellent hotels, apartments, restaurants and bars, Turgutreis is the ideal choice for a family holiday in Turkey.

Head four kilometres north from Turgutreis to Kadikalesi. A small Turkish village with plenty of hidden gems, pay a visit to the Greek church and the Kadikalesi castle ruins. Looking to catch some sun rays? There’s plenty of excellent beaches and breathtaking scenic spots typical of the region too. Regular buses also connect Turgutreis with Bodrum, and in high season, coaches for Istanbul and Ankara.
