Our Favourite European City Breaks
Only have a weekend window that you can jet off this year? Here are our favourite European city breaks and why you should add them to your travel bucket list…
Milan, Italy
The grandeur, the fashion, the Aperol Spritz! Milan is Italy’s most wealthy city and its 2nd largest after Rome. The city is Rome & Venice’s less ‘typically touristy’ Italian counterpart. It may be most well-known for its high-end fashion houses, but it is also a perfectly preserved display of classic Italian culture, rich history dating back to 400BC, striking architecture and of course a plethora of bars and restaurants serving endless Aperol Spritz. Saluti!

Sibiu, Romania
A true medieval gem in the heart of Romania. Sibiu is nestled in the region of Transylvania – an area most synonymous with vampires… (admit it, that was probably what first came to mind!). But it is SO much more than that. Its old town is an extraordinary blend of architecture dating back to the 12th Century when it was colonised by Saxon settlers; under the German name Hermannstadt. It benefits from all that you’d expect of a relaxed European city but with friendly people and quaint beauty that won’t break the bank! Check out our video of the top seven things to do in Sibiu.

There is a reason why this city is consistently named one of the most popular city breaks worldwide. Its blend of beach and city holiday all in one is a real pull for travellers and allows one to soak up the sea and sand, whilst also enjoying a cosmopolitan city break. There are endless things to see and do in this city and with Spain being the sunniest country in Europe, you have a high chance of getting sunshine no matter what season you visit!

Krakow, Poland
Once the capital of Poland, this southern Polish city has become increasingly popular with tourists over recent years. The city has held onto its natural charm and has not succumbed to the over-commercialisation that many places do. Around every corner is a new fairytale-like backdrop, where you can immerse yourself in the rich history of years gone by. There really is something for everyone in this city – whether you prefer to relax and take it easy, enjoy the nightlife, or take in the sights and museums; Krakow has it all.

Prague, Czech Republic
This city arguably needs no introduction. Regardless of the season or weather, Prague’s exquisite beauty shines through. A real-life architectural textbook; the history of the city dates back more than 1000 years. Despite the Czech capital being so iconic, it’s still relatively cheap for tourists to visit. With the average pint setting you back a little more than £1 and a hearty restaurant meal on average just £5, this city won’t break the bank.

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to walk around a Game of Thrones set? Split was the backdrop for a number of scenes from series three to six of the show and once you visit the city, you can understand why! The city itself offers hiking opportunities, beaches, endless cobblestone streets, restaurants for every palate and epic sunsets. If you’re staying for a little longer than a few days, you might want to explore the famous nearby Krka waterfalls.
