About Sibiu
Located in central Romania, Sibiu sits in the middle of three mountain ranges within the Carpathian mountains. Go hiking in the Fagaras mountains, follow the trails to the top of the Cindrel mountains, and ascend to Prejba Peak in the Lotrului mountains.
Sibiu is packed with historical buildings and lively terraces. Sit with a coffee in the main area, conveniently called ‘The Large Square’. As you walk around, cross the Bridge of Lies — some say that the bridge creaks if you tell a lie while walking on it!
Sibiu becomes an immense stage with lots of street performances and festivals everywhere you turn in the summertime. Be sure to check out the 10-day Sibiu International Theater Festival (FITS) every June. It transforms the Romanian city into an acting hub, similar to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Want to escape the city? The surrounding countryside area is a picturesque paradise with lovely villages, lots of hiking trails, charming guesthouses, and delicious local gastronomy. Enjoy the landscape, connect with the local spirit and try off-the-beaten-track tours. It’s an ideal base for crossing central Romania; it’s a two-hour drive to Brasov and a three-hour drive to Timisoara.
Fly from London Luton Airport to Sibiu in 2 hours and 55 minutes.
