This is an event open to the public and is designed for anyone interested in learning more about the operations of London Luton Airport (LLA).
This event will feature a range of speakers covering a variety of topics. The sessions will include insights into how LLA operates on a day-to-day basis presented by the Flight Operations Team, information about the Noise Insulation Scheme delivered by our supplier Evander Glazing & Locks, and a session on Measuring Aircraft Noise presented by our independent acousticians.
Additionally, there will be presentations from the National Air Traffic Services (NATS) on Air Traffic Control at LLA, along with the opportunity to hear directly from airline pilots operating at the airport and a session on The Future of Aircraft presented by Cranfield University.
The Airspace and Noise Week offers an opportunity to engage with professionals, ask questions, and deepen the understanding of the operations at one of the UK’s busiest airports.

Each session will include a presentation followed by an opportunity to participate in a question-and-answer session.

Additional details on each session:
LLA Operations
The Flight Operations Team will provide an insight into how London Luton Airport operates, including an overview of the Westerly and Easterly Operations and Noise Preferential Routes (NPR’s), the Noise Monitoring Programme and the restrictions and controls in place to minimise the impact of aircraft noise on local communities. The session will also include an overview on the UK Airspace Design Service (UKADS).
Noise Insulation Scheme
Evander Glazing and Locks will provide an overview of the Noise Insulation Scheme, outlining the scheme process and the range of insulation measures available to eligible properties, which may include replacement windows, acoustic ventilation and other improvements designed to help reduce the impact of aircraft noise within properties.
Community Trust Fund
The Bedfordshire and Luton Community Foundation will share information about grants available for projects that benefit people living in Luton, Central Bedfordshire, North Herts District, Stevenage, St. Albans District or the Aylesbury Vale District. Information on the application process and guidance on how to apply will be provided on the day.
Luton Operations (ATC Perspective)
This session will be presented by NATS air traffic controllers from the LLA Air Traffic Control Tower, alongside speakers from the NATS Swanick Control Centre. Attendees will gain an insight into how air traffic is managed both locally and across the wider UK airspace network, and how NATS works to ensure the safe and efficient movement of aircraft every day.
Luton Operations (Pilot Perspective)
Find out about the airport operations from a pilot’s perspective and gain an insight into the challenges pilots face when flying in and out of London Luton Airport, including air traffic procedures, runway approaches, weather conditions, and operating within busy and complex airspace. Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear first-hand experiences from airline pilots and ask questions about their role and day-to-day operations.
Measuring Aircraft Noise
This session will be presented by our independent noise consultants Bickerdike Allen Partners and provide an overview of how aircraft noise is measured, assessed, and reported. Attendees will learn about the different types of noise monitoring undertaken around London Luton Airport, how noise data is analysed, and how this information is used to help understand and manage the airport's impact on local communities.
The Future of Aircraft
Join experts from Cranfield University for an insightful session exploring the future of aircraft design and sustainable aviation. The presentation will provide an overview of recent aerospace vehicle design research, including innovative concepts such as the Blended Wing Body (BWB) aircraft configuration and its potential to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impacts.e details of the scheme, explaining the process and how eligibility is determined.
