Our Energy Policy

London Luton Airport Operations Limited (LLAOL) is committed to continuously improving its energy management and performance, and in turn reducing our greenhouse gas emissions (GHG).

We strive to improve energy efficiency within our direct operations and work with stakeholders to reduce our indirect emissions.

This policy aligns our shareholders’ core environmental policies and expectations, including the “Policy on Integrated Quality, Environmental,Energy Efficiency and Occupational Health and Safety Management at Aena,” which was adopted by the LLAOL Board in October 2023.

Our energy-related operating principles are reflected in the following:

Energy and Carbon Emissions Management

  • Reduce our carbon footprint directly associated with our activities through investing in energy efficiency measures and encouraging the transition to low or zero emission fuels, heating, vehicles and equipment, and the integration of Electric Vehicles (EVs).

  • Assign clear responsibilities within the organisation for all energy management and provide adequate resource and training to deliver and achieve our objectives.

  • Continue to use an Energy Management System to support and improve energy efficiency and environmental impact, contributing towards climate change mitigation.

  • Ensure that energy efficiency considerations are included in all aspects of our business planning and operation, consistent with sound management practices.

  • Implement monitoring and reporting procedures to communicate our performance with the Sustainability Committee of the Board of Directors.

  • To ensure continuous improvement across processes with regular reviews of processes and procedures in accordance with internal risk governance controls.

  • Fully comply with all energy-related legislation and other applicable requirements.

  • Continue to source 100% of electricity from renewable sources through Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs) and continue to drive the implementation of schemes for on-site / near-site renewable energy generation.

  • Review this policy and LLAOL’s Energy Management System annually.

  • Work with our partners and airlines to consider the introduction and implementation of measures to reduce fuel use and improve ground operational efficiencies.
