Role: Risk and Compliance Manager

Hours: Full-time (Monday to Friday). Hybrid working.

Job purpose summary:

We are seeking an experienced Risk and Compliance Manager to proactively manage LLA’s risk and compliance framework across the business, including:

  • Developing and ensuring compliance with LLA risk and compliance-related policies and procedures, including supporting the department and corporate risk review and management;
  • Providing risk and compliance advice to the business, including liaising and coordinating with department-level risk and compliance managers and colleagues; and
  • Assisting the LLA Legal team as required, including in relation to compliance-related contractual and regulatory obligations.

You will need to develop extensive knowledge of the organisation and the legal and regulatory framework that it operates within. You'll need to know who key stakeholders are, both external and internal, and understand LLA’s aims and objectives. You will interact with colleagues across the business at all levels to support their risk and compliance activities. 

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Key point of contact internally and externally on all risk and compliance-related matters for the business;
  • Responsibility for the co-ordination and implementation of LLA’s risk and compliance framework, including identifying and implementing any areas for improvement;
  • Monitor and identify trends or issues from the business’ risk registers (which are contained in a risk management software system), including ensuring risks and reviews and actions are completed within the necessary timeframes;
  • Training and supporting internal colleagues on how to appropriately identify and rate risks in line with LLA’s risk management policy, including through regularly attending departmental risk register review meetings;
  • Develop, update and ensure compliance with, business policies and processes in connection with risk and compliance to minimise risk to the business (acting as a gatekeeper in respect of risk and compliance requirements);
  • Provide advice on the relevant risk and compliance requirements for the business;
  • Develop, manage and co-ordinate an internal audit programme;
  • Responsibility for LLA’s corporate offence prevention procedures and policies (including Anti-Bribery);
  • Training internal colleagues on key areas of regulatory compliance, including Anti-Bribery and other corporate offences;
  • Drive a strong compliance culture across the business and working with HR to ensure staff meet mandatory training requirements;
  • Work with the legal team and other departments to identify regulatory changes which impact the business and ensure compliance;
  • Regularly review the business’ key regulatory commitment and obligations trackers to ensure compliance, including ensuring each commitment/obligation has an owner, identifying any actions needed and ensuring those actions are completed;
  • Co-ordinate the annual review of LLA’s legal and regulatory risk matrix and report the outcome of the review to LLA’s various risk and compliance-related executive and board-level committees. Identify any actions needed and ensure those actions are completed;
  • Liaise with Aena’s compliance team and prepare reports and notifications of compliance activities to them as required;
  • Develop and co-ordinate LLA’s policy governance framework; and
  • Support the General Counsel with various risk and compliance activities and advice as needed.

Knowledge, skills and experience:

A successful candidate for this role will have:

  • Appropriate risk management and/or compliance experience and/or qualification;
  • A good knowledge of data protection law and GDPR;
  • A skilled communicator, capable of interacting with the business at all levels, with the necessary credibility and professionalism to influence senior stakeholders;
  • Ability to build strong relationships to become a trusted adviser to stakeholders. A positive, can-do and ambitious approach and a commitment to driving continuous improvement;
  • The candidate will have a positive outlook and attitude, will be capable of identifying and resolving problems and possess good organizational skills;
  • Capable of working on your own initiative as well as providing leadership, guidance and support and being a role model to LLA staff and third-party stakeholders;
  • Task-oriented and capable of taking decisive action;
  • An adaptable persona willing to learn and encompass new tasks as well as being keen to develop the role and function;
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment;
  • Excellent written & verbal communication and time management skills;
  • Accuracy, tenacity, diplomacy & integrity;
  • Ability to see wider, strategic issues and to meet deadlines; and
  • Proficient in Word, Powerpoint and Excel.

Advantageous but not essential:

  • Aviation industry experience
  • Fluent in Spanish
