Reducing our carbon emissions

Reaching carbon neutral

We are committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2026 or sooner and net zero by 2040

for airport operations. This interim report sets out our carbon journey so far and key future milestones to achieve our ambition.

  • We’re part of ACI Europe’s Airport Carbon Accreditation scheme which is the only global carbon certification programme for airports. In just 18 months since joining the scheme, we’ve achieved level 3 accreditation through reducing our carbon emissions and engaging our stakeholders in our journey.
  • To ensure we use our energy efficiently, in 2015 LLA joined just a handful of airports in the world to be accredited with the internationally recognised Energy Management Standard ISO 50001 by the British Standards Institution.  We are delighted to say that we have retained this accreditation.
  • The airport has developed an Energy Policy setting out its commitment to improve energy efficiency and the adoption of best practice
